[General - Living Coat] Living Coat does not give a perfect waterproof effect, but buys a time to wipe off the liquid contamination
Q. I was testing Living Coat’s water repellency. So, I left few drops of water on one of my solid woods right after applying the product, and I found stains and marks few days later. Why is this happening?
When the application of Living Coat is done on wood, it is usable after 30 minutes. However, water repellency becomes active 12 to 24 hours later. The time needed for absorption and settlement of the substance that induces water repellency depends on the kind of wood.
To elaborate more on water repellency of Living Coat, it is called hydrophobic water repellency. Hydrophobicity appears as a sphere-shaped when liquid is dropped on the surface. Such characteristic helps easier to remove liquid contamination from the surface. So, if you have a hair dryer at home, try it out as an experiment.
Continual and periodical maintenance with form multi layers of Living Coat on the surface, and it will eventually make the water repellency near perfect. However, as a precondition, it requires a “constant” care with Living Coat.
There is another way to obtain near-perfect water repellency from the beginning, but it requires some help from other products and time.
The process is as below:
1. Apply urethane or varnish as a primer, and make sure to give some time to be fully dried.
2. Use Living Coat as a finish afterwards.
Tip: For raw woods
Raw woods require more amount of product than others. Without enough amount of Living Coat applied, water repellency can also be weaker.
This may depend on the condition, type, and finish of woods so contact us freely for explanation.

Tip: For tops in kitchen
It is best to wipe any contamination as soon as possible to prevent the formation of stains or marks. This is not only for the wooden tops, but also for the marble tops.
