How I Made My 3-Year-Old Kitchen Look New Again

How I Made My 3-Year-Old Kitchen Look New Again

After three years of daily use, our kitchen countertop was starting to show its age. Stains appeared more easily, the original shine had faded, and keeping the white surface looking clean was becoming more difficult.

So I decided to try a DIY nano coating with Pomponazzi Living Coat on the kitchen countertop, sink, and several other surfaces around the home.

The Result

The countertop felt noticeably smoother, some of the lost shine returned, and everyday spills became easier to wipe away. The stainless steel sink showed an especially clear change, with a cleaner finish and water forming into droplets more readily instead of spreading across the surface.

Why I Decided to Coat the Kitchen Countertop

When we first moved in, the kitchen had been newly renovated. Three years later, daily cooking and cleaning had inevitably taken a toll on the countertop.

The surface had developed stains and the original gloss had gradually faded. I wanted to see whether a DIY coating could make the surface easier to maintain while also refreshing its appearance.

What's Included in the Kit?

The set includes the Living Coat solution, a suede cloth and square applicator, a towel, and a surface preparation cleaner.

Pomponazzi Living Coat is an inorganic coating designed for use on various compatible household materials, including stainless steel, glass, ceramic, marble, and other common surfaces.

At first, the bottle looked smaller than expected, but only a few drops were needed at a time. In this application, a small amount covered a surprisingly wide area.

How I Applied Pomponazzi Living Coat

The application process was straightforward.

  1. Clean the surface thoroughly.
  2. Make sure the surface is completely dry.
  3. Apply about 5–6 drops of Living Coat to the suede applicator.
  4. Spread the product lightly and evenly across the surface.
  5. Wait approximately 30 minutes.
  6. Finish by wiping the surface with a clean towel.

For this project, that was essentially the entire DIY coating process.

The Countertop Felt Noticeably Smoother

The first thing I noticed after coating was the feel of the surface.

The countertop felt smoother to the touch, and the finish had a subtle refreshed shine. It didn't look overly glossy, but it looked cleaner and better maintained.

Food spills were also easier to wipe away, which was particularly helpful on a white countertop where stains tend to be more noticeable.

Next: The Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink

After seeing the countertop result, I immediately tried Living Coat on the kitchen sink.

After three years of use, the sink had accumulated visible water marks and everyday wear. I used the included surface preparation cleaner first and then applied Living Coat.

The sink showed one of the clearest before-and-after differences. It looked cleaner and brighter, and water formed droplets and rolled across the surface more readily.

Using Living Coat on the Induction Cooktop

The induction cooktop was another surface where the refreshed finish was easy to notice.

Because cooking surfaces regularly collect fingerprints, oil, and splashes, having a smoother surface that is easier to wipe is a practical benefit.

I Started Using It Around the House

After finishing the kitchen, I started looking for other compatible surfaces to coat.

Bathroom surfaces were an obvious next choice because shower glass, sinks, mirrors, and faucets constantly deal with water spots.

After several days, these coated areas still felt easier to keep looking clean.

Trying It on the Coffee Machine

Our black coffee machine shows fingerprints and dust easily, and the stainless steel drip tray is especially prone to visible water marks.

After applying Living Coat, routine wiping felt easier and the surface looked more polished.

The same approach can be used on other compatible furniture, accessories, and household surfaces.

What Changed in Everyday Cleaning?

Before coating, it sometimes felt as if surfaces became dirty again almost immediately after cleaning.

After using Living Coat, the biggest difference was the finishing feel. Surfaces felt smoother, routine wiping became easier, and the freshly cleaned appearance seemed easier to maintain.

Is DIY Nano Coating Difficult?

Before trying it myself, I thought nano coating was something that required professional installation and specialized equipment.

This project changed that impression. The basic process was simply preparing the surface, applying a small amount of coating, allowing it to settle, and finishing with a towel.

Final Thoughts

The biggest benefit wasn't simply making an older kitchen look shinier. It was making everyday maintenance feel easier.

The countertop felt smoother, spills wiped away more easily, and the stainless steel sink showed a particularly noticeable improvement in appearance and water behavior.

For anyone interested in nano coating but hesitant about professional installation, Pomponazzi Living Coat offers a straightforward DIY option for compatible surfaces around the home.

Quick Takeaway

After coating a three-year-old kitchen countertop and sink, the most noticeable changes were a smoother finish, refreshed shine, easier wiping, and more visible water beading on the stainless steel sink.
