[DIY Guide] How I Coated My Artificial Marble Island (Review)

Editor's Note: This article is a translated version of a review originally written by the Korean lifestyle blogger on Naver Blog.

I recently moved into a new house and found myself coordinating schedules with various contractors for lighting, grouting, and appliances. In the midst of this chaos, I saw a review online about DIY coating for kitchen islands and bathrooms.

As someone who loves car detailing, I had a bit of "baseless confidence" that I could handle this. I decided to try the Pomponazzi Living Coat, a product that is currently very popular.

Note: This is a 100% personal opinion based on my actual usage.

1. Product & Components

I used the Pomponazzi Living Coat (100ml). The kit is very generous—it includes 4 suede cloths, a microfiber towel, and a sponge block, so I didn't need to buy any extra supplies.

Value: Reviews said you only need 2-3 drops, and I was skeptical. But it’s true! A 100ml bottle could easily last a year even with regular maintenance.

2. Preparation

My kitchen island is artificial marble. For the coating to bond properly, the surface must be free of oil, dust, and moisture.

  • Wiped the surface with a neutral detergent.
  • Dried completely with kitchen towels.

3. The Application

Once the surface was clean and dry, I dropped 2~3 drops on the suede cloth and applied it in a wiping motion.

  • Ease of use: It spreads incredibly wide with a tiny amount. It’s very easy to do, though coating a large island does give your arm a bit of a workout!
  • Detailing: I paid special attention to the corners and edges, going over them twice.

The Results
After waiting 30 minutes and buffing it off with the microfiber towel, the change was obvious.

  • Texture: The first thing I noticed was the sleekness. It feels slippery and smooth to the touch.
  • Look: It provides a soft, elegant gloss. It’s not an oily shine, but a "neatly organized" look.
  • Hydrophobic Effect: This was the most surprising part. When I spilled a little water, the droplets beaded up and rolled around as if they were floating on air. If you blow on them, they roll away like marbles.

Would I do it again?
Definitely. Among all the DIY home care products I’ve tried, Pomponazzi offers the best balance of workability, efficiency, and gloss. It’s also great because you can use it on furniture, appliances, and even lighting fixtures.

If you are looking for that "perfectly finished" look for your kitchen, I highly recommend this.
